Oh, impatient me
By Steve Outing on Mar 15, 2006 in Technology
The speed of the Internet makes us more impatient, I think. We usually get instant gratification, and when a website doesn’t live up to that standard, we get annoyed. … At least, that seems to be the case with me.
I’ve been playing around with several public calendar services. I wanted to add a feature to this blog that showed upcoming events that I’m attending or speaking at. I’ve added a feature to the right column using Eventful.com, which will list my upcoming travels. (If my speaking schedule looks extremely light right now, it’s because I’m in hunker-down mode working on the launch of the first Enthusiast Group website, and thus turning down invitations.)
Anyway, for each service I tried, I had to register in order to try them out. Each accepted my registration data and then sent me a confirmation e-mail, which must be answered before I can proceed further in configuring the service. The trouble is, some of those e-mails took a long time to get to me. By the time they arrived, I’d already gone on to another task. If the e-mail confirmation didn’t arrive within a couple minutes, I wrote off the service and went to a competitor.
I wonder if other users are that brutal? … I suspect so.
